The electronic cigarette looks very much a normal cigarette to me, only slightly longer. There is even a LED light at the tip that lights up red every time you take a puff. What you inhale and exhale instead of the smoke is a vapour, white in colour and almost resembling smoke. The kick you get on smoking is of course there, thanks to the nicotine.
These cigarettes come in different flavours like tobacco, menthol, etc. The taste is near-exact like normal cigarettes but the feeling of warmth is lacking, my friends who are into smoking complain. Which is apparent as there is no burning involved.

Even in these days of strict laws banning smoking in public places, these gadgets let people puff away legally in cinemas, restaurants and airports. But there are worries about the health impact of e-smoking.
Manufacturers claim these don't contain any of the 4,000 cancer-causing substances like tar and carbon monoxide found in regular fags and are, therefore, a "healthier smoking alternative" which could help users kick the butt.
But these claims have ignited a debate, with many in the medical fraternity saying there is not enough evidence to prove their safety and efficacy as nicotine-replacement therapy. Manufacturers say most buyers are in the 30-50 age group. Some just want to look stylish.
However, marketing executive Sanjiban Banerjee is convinced they work. The Kolkata resident, who smoked 15 cigarettes a day for six years, has not touched any kind of cigarette for two weeks. "I smoked the e-cigarettes a lot for the first week, but then cut down.''
Manufacturers say smokers of all ages - they don't sell to minors and non-smokers - have been ordering, but most regular buyers are in the 30 to 50 age group. While 20-somethings buy e-cigarettes out of curiosity or to look stylish, most of the older buyers want to kick the butt or are concerned about the smoke affecting their family, says Rahul Roy Choudhary from RRR chemicals.
Hollywood, too, seems to be hooked. Johnny Depp "smoked" an e-cigarette in The Tourist, while Leonardo Di Caprio and Catherine Zeta-Jones were spotted vapourizing off screen. E-cigarettes are made of plastic and metal and heat a liquid nicotine solution in a cartridge, creating vapour that the smoker inhales. - Times Of India
